I am so excited to share the Ellis family’s Whitefish Montana family session! This session is so near and dear to my heart because these are some of our closest friends. We’ve known Dale and Colby for years and they are truly like our family. They actually family moved from Georgia to Montana with us and I can’t imagine life out here without them! 

We decided to do a combination of locations for their session. We started out at City Beach at Whitefish Lake, where they spend a lot of their time. In the summers, they walk over and spend time in the water, and in the winter, they go ice skating together on the lake. It’s a special place for their family and so beautiful, so it only made sense to start our session there!

City Beach is one of our favorite spots in the Valley! Being near Whitefish Mountain, it offers easy access to year-round family fun—whether you’re hitting the slopes in winter or exploring summer adventures. Plus, with its close proximity to downtown Whitefish and stunning lakefront views, it’s the ultimate spot for a perfect summer day by the water!

After City Beach, we went over to a field just down the street from their home in Whitefish. Colby actually found it on one of her evening walks and I’m so glad she did! The way to sunlight hit the tall grass in the field was so dreamy. We got the best golden hour sunset and I am obsessed with how these images turned out! Fall in Whitefish is nothing short of magical. The golden leaves, the crisp air, and the soft light filtering through the trees provided the perfect backdrop for this session.

As a photographer, sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. Being able to document families in meaningful locations, during the seasons of life they’ll want to remember forever, is such a privilege. I loved being able to capture the Ellis family in this season of life in their new home of Montana.
