Wildflower season in Glacier National Park is truly one of the best times for an engagement session! There’s something just so breathtaking about wildflowers blooming in the mountains of Glacier. It feels straight out of a movie! When our friends Brooke and Chandler visited from Georgia last summer, we took the opportunity to do a photo swap. Brooke, an incredibly talented photographer friend based in Atlanta (check out her work here!), captured our family photos, and I had the joy of photographing her and Chandler on a late summer evening in Glacier. Brooke and Chandler got married just last year, so it was so fun to capture them in their newlywed season!
They came to visit at the end of July, which is the perfect time to visit Glacier if you want want flowers surrounding you! Vibrant purple Fireweed created the most stunning background for their photos at Big Bend. We ran around the area and had the best time together capturing this sweet season of life for them!
If you’re hoping for wildflowers in your photos, I always suggest planning your session for late July or early August. As you can see in this engagement session, we had the most stunning wildflowers blooming all over in early August! Picking the right time of year for your engagement session or elopement in Glacier National Park can be a challenge, so here are some tips to guide you:
SPRING (MAY & JUNE)
Spring can still be chilly in Glacier, so bring a light jacket! This is the best time for snow capped mountains. Keep in mind that a lot of the park is still closed during this time, but you can always access Lake Mcdonald and some of the East side of the park at this time!
SUMMER (JULY & AUGUST)
Summer is the busiest and warmest time in Glacier—and for good reason! The park is lush, full of greens and blues for your backdrop. You can access the entire park during these months because the Going-to-the-sun road is open for the season! This is also prime wildflower season!
FALL (SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER)
Fall is perfect for your engagement session if you want cooler weather, golden hues, and fewer crowds! Going-to-the-Sun Road usually closes by mid-October, so keep this in mind when planning your session

WINTER (NOVEMBER – APRIL)
While most of the park is inaccessible during winter, Lake McDonald remains open year-round—and a winter elopement here is nothing short of magical! If you’re willing to embrace the cold, you’ll be rewarded with stunning snowy landscapes and a truly intimate experience. The park is basically empty in the winter, so no need to work around tourists!
