A summertime family session in Glacier National Park

This Glacier National Park family session with the Zehner family was one of those evenings that just felt extra special from start to finish. Melanie is a photographer herself, which made it such an honor when she reached out! I was immediately so excited to plan their Glacier National Park family session, and after meeting her and her sweet family in person… it was even better than I imagined! The whole family were naturals in front of the camera, and it gave me so much space to get creative. I shot this session on digital and film, giving it such a dynamic look!

The Zehner family traveled all the way from Florida to Montana with their two kids (and one on the way!). It was such a special season of life to capture! These are the moments that go by so quickly, and it’s always such a gift to be able to freeze them in time.

We met up at Big Bend on a warm summer evening, right as golden hour started doing its thing, and let me just say… it showed up. We got that dreamy, glowy light that I’m always chasing. This is why I’ll forever recommend scheduling your Glacier National Park family session around sunset! It just hits different. It creates that soft, hazy golden tone in your photos and is hands down the most flattering light.

From the start, we kept things super laid back and go with the flow. When little kids are involved, the best thing you can do is lean into the chaos a little (in the best way)! We wandered, explored, let the kids lead, and just embraced whatever moments unfolded.

Melanie was absolutely glowing the entire time. I honestly was a little jealous that I didn’t have that kind of glow when I was pregnant, haha! There’s something so special about documenting a mama in this season, especially surrounded by her babies and in a place as beautiful as Glacier!

Sessions like this are why I love what I do so much. Getting to adventure with families, letting kids be kids, and documenting it all in a place this magical never gets old. It really is such an honor to freeze these moments in time.
