Bozeman, Montana was the perfect location for Kimmy and Josh’s summer engagement session! These two were visiting the Bozeman area for a few days in July and reached out to plan their engagement session during their trip. Luckily, my schedule lined up perfectly, and I was able to drive out to meet them! We decided on Hyalite Canyon, one of my favorite spots in the area. Between the lake, the open fields, and the mountain backdrop, it’s hard to beat the variety and beauty this place has to offer!
We had everything planned out for a beautiful sunset session. The forecast was looking perfect and everything was lining up to go according to plan! But, as Montana does, the weather decided to throw us a curveball. While I was packing up my gear at the hotel, a massive storm rolled in out of nowhere. I’m talking sideways wind, hail…the whole nine yards! I kept refreshing my weather app and watching the radar, crossing my fingers that we’d get a break in the rain for their session. This was our only day to make it happen, so there was no option to reschedule!
I got to Hyalite Canyon early to scout out the best spots for their session. After exploring the area for a bit, I picked out two main locations a quiet lakeside spot and an open field surrounded by rolling hills. The weather was holding off and it looked like we might miss the rain! Buuuut, just as Kimmy and Josh arrived at the lake, it started to drizzle. I panicked a little on the inside, but Kimmy and Josh were SO laid back and chill and they didn’t care one bit!
We embraced the rain (which thankfully stayed light) and made the most of the moody skies. The overcast light ended up being absolutely dreamy. It gave the photos such a cozy, intimate vibe that matched the relaxed energy of the day perfectly!
After the lake, we moved to the open field I had found earlier, and the weather actually started to clear a bit. We laughed, explored, and took our time capturing sweet, candid moments between these two. Kimmy and Josh were naturals in front of the camera! Capturing them as they naturally interacted with one another was so easy and made me so excited for their wedding day!
I am obsessed with this Bozeman engagement session, and I cannot wait to capture Kimmy and Josh’s Glacier National Park elopement day this fall!
